Stick or Switch?REMEMBER: There are 3 "sessions" on the calendar this quarter, and you should plan to write 2-3 different compositions during them! In sum, these compositions should add up to 3,000 words and 9 sources by the end of the quarter. Here are the four ways for you to accomplish these goals:
|
IS YOUR COMPOSITION COMPLETE?
(Does it have a beginning, middle, and end?)
(Does it have a beginning, middle, and end?)
If YES:
You are welcome to switch to a *NEW* composition, but keep considering (just in case)...
|
If NO:
Consider the reasons why your composition is incomplete. Can you see a path to a complete piece of writing if you stick with the same composition for three more weeks?
NO? Switch to a *NEW* composition. YES? Keep considering... |
DO YOU "FEEL" DONE?
("Done" could mean bored, out of steam, maxed out...
OR, it could mean finished, accomplished, proud, & ready to move on)
("Done" could mean bored, out of steam, maxed out...

Have you written approximately 3,000 words?
(*The end-of-quarter goal is 3,000 words minimum.)
(*The end-of-quarter goal is 3,000 words minimum.)
If YES:
You're ahead of schedule with the word count requirement, but perhaps there are other revisions you could do to improve your writing and process.
Keep considering... |
If NO:
Can you see a path to getting there if you stick with the same composition for three more weeks? It's a good idea to aim for 1,000 more words each session to reach the end-of-quarter goal of 3,000.
NO? Switch to a *NEW* composition. YES? Keep considering... |
Have you gathered approximately 9 sources?
(*The end-of-quarter goal is 9 sources, listed as a Works Cited & as SIP in the piece.)
(*The end-of-quarter goal is 9 sources, listed as a Works Cited & as SIP in the piece.)
If YES:
You're ahead of schedule with the outside sources requirement, but perhaps there are other revisions you could do to improve your writing and process.

If NO:

NO? Switch to a *NEW* composition. YES? Keep considering... |
Do you still have ideas for what you might revise?
(*There will be 3 more rounds of revision this session!)
(*There will be 3 more rounds of revision this session!)
If YES:
If you have made it this far and the answer is "YES," I encourage you to stick with the same composition (*unless you're entering the last session and need to complete a second composition- at least two are required for the course).
|
If NO:
Can you see a path to getting there if you ask for more input and help, and if you utilize the new learning resources?
NO? Switch to a *NEW* composition. YES? Stick with the same composition. |
Have you written at least 2 separate compositions?
(You must write a total of 2-3 compositions, per the course requirements).
(You must write a total of 2-3 compositions, per the course requirements).
If YES:
If you have at least 2 compositions, you're welcome to choose whichever option: STICK or SWITCH (for a total of 2-3 compositions for the quarter- *required).
|
If NO:
If you've only written 1 composition thus far (for both Sessions #1 and #2), you need to SWITCH to a new composition in order to complete a total of at least 2 compositions for the quarter- *required.
|
Once you've decided whether to stick with the same composition or switch to a *NEW* composition, you're ready to fill out the PLAN for our next session. Click here to view the plan instructions for Session #3.
